  • Lobbies-visibility, voting, name, password, and custom tags.
  • A timer to see how long you survive. As you level up and time increases, so does the difficulty and number of enemies.
  • How the game plays out is you go around killing enemies to level up and get weapons, abilities, etc then you find the teleporter for the next level, this will spawn a boss and increase the enemies, but also have a timer. Clear all that to go to the next location.
  • Three difficulties to start from: easy, Medium, and Insane.
  • Game browser with filter options.
  • Alternative game modes- Prismatic trials (fixed seed and online) and Eclipse (stacks modifiers as you play).

  • The loadout menu  – unlock and customise each survivor’s loadout and skin colour.
  • Roguelike elements throughout, some things get saved after a run, but the majority don’t like guns, etc.
  • Every game is different and randomised in every way, from enemies to drops.
  • Play how you want, even in multiplayer, as you are not tied together.
  • Massive screen-filling boss fights, but you also get mid-bosses and huge titans walking around.
  • You can pause the game in single player.
  • The game world is full 3D, and you play in third-person view and have full 360-degree camera control.
  • Find and fix turrets and drones to have them fight for you. It’s realistic in that it takes money to fix things.
  • Vibration is done so that you feel things like doors opening, shots, etc and adds another level of immersion.
  • The game runs silky smooth on Playstation 5.
  • Barrels and chests to find and open, as well as old drop pods, mechanical canisters, etc.
  • You pay to open the many units/chests/terminals for loot that are all over the place.
  • Artefacts: Find game-changing items you select at the start of the game.
  • Absolutely banging soundtrack, it caters to most tastes, but the bass-heavy numbers ramp the adrenaline up!

  • So much replayability, and the game grabs just one more go mechanic and never lets go.
  • The locations look fantastic and are vibrant and colourful.
  • You can have up to 4 attacks assigned to buttons, and they show on the Hud and most of the abilities have cooldowns.
  • There is a running log on the side of the screen telling you who got what and who killed who, more of a thing in multiplayer.
  • Air blasts around the level can fire you up in the air and help navigate the huge land.
  • You do love fast, so the massive areas are not a chore.
  • 3D printers let you feed items in to get a new item.
  • Pray at altars and the like to get a random buff, which can be permanent for the run or be a time or usage-based one.
  • Collect EXP orbs from enemies and chests to level up and increase your health, etc.
  • You see enemy health bars when attacking them.
  • End of game breakdown showing performance, any unlocks and what you got in the run.
  • Highly addictive and replayable game in solo, with friends or randoms.

Risk Of Rain 2 Review Cons

  • The game is all luck based with no real skill apart from staying alive.
  • Could be me, but I didn’t see any way to transfer saves between the two game versions.
  • Playing with randoms is daunting as you browse the server list.
  • No way of pinging items or locations.
  • Online feels like a load of solos who just happen to be in the same area.
  • Loot stealing is way too easy.
  • Fall damage is rough.

Risk Of Rain 2 – The Thrills and Highlights of Gameplay:
Risk Of Rain 2 drops you into relentless alien chaos where every run feels like a storm that never ends. The roguelike shooter thrives on loot-driven progression, transforming survivors into demi-gods or leaving them scrambling against escalating difficulty. With 13 unique survivors to unlock, massive boss fights, multiplayer modes, and endless replayability, the game delivers addictive combat, vibrant locations, and a rhythm of survival that keeps players coming back for just one more go.

Risk Of Rain 2 – Where It Falls Short: Key Negatives:
The game leans heavily on luck, with little skill beyond staying alive. Playing with randoms can feel daunting, as online sessions often resemble solo runs with no real teamwork. Loot stealing is far too easy, fall damage punishes harshly, and the lack of item pinging or save transfers between versions leaves gaps in the experience.

Risk Of Rain 2 – Immersive Story and Narrative Elements:
Risk Of Rain 2 builds its narrative through roguelike immersion rather than traditional storytelling. Each teleport hums with tension, every boss fight feels like a thunderclap, and the logbook tracks discoveries to create a sense of progression. Artefacts and randomised encounters add layers of unpredictability, shaping a story of survival defined by player choices and chaotic alien worlds.
