R-Type Delta: HD Boosted Review Cons

  • No actual tutorial.
  • I am not a huge fan of how long it takes to get back into the action after a death.
  • You do not get to try out the ships beforehand.
  • I (as a bad Shmup player) wish you could have cheats or settings to just help us less fortunate players.
  • There are no museum-piece additions about the game or anything.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted – The Thrills and Highlights of Gameplay:
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted throws players straight into a haunting sci-fi battlefield where precision and courage are everything. The gameplay is packed with shmup action, offering three ships to pilot, each with unique force devices and shot types. Players can remap controls, toggle vibration, and choose from three difficulty levels: Kids, Human, and Bydo. The game delivers massive boss encounters, chaotic, destructible environments, and addictive power-ups that enhance weapons and add extra firepower. With upbeat soundtracks, online leaderboards, war records, and multiple save slots, this remaster nails the retro arcade feel while adding modern touches like HD clarity, remixed soundscapes, and dynamic 2D shooting with occasional 3D or isometric views. It’s a true resurrection of a classic shoot ’em up.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted – Where It Falls Short: Key Negatives:
Despite its strengths, R-Type Delta: HD Boosted has some drawbacks. There is no tutorial to ease newcomers in, and the downtime after death feels too long, breaking the flow of action. Players cannot test ships beforehand, which can be frustrating, and there are no cheats or accessibility options to help less experienced shmup fans. The absence of museum-style extras or historical context also leaves the package feeling a little bare for those seeking more than just gameplay.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted – Immersive Story and Narrative Elements:
The game’s atmosphere is eerie and immersive, pulling players into a dark universe defined by the relentless Bydo threat. While the focus is firmly on gameplay, the inclusion of in-game cutscenes and character interactions adds depth to the experience. Each location introduction builds tension and excitement, making the narrative feel alive even without heavy storytelling.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted – Visual and Performance Aspects:
Visually, R-Type Delta: HD Boosted shines with razor-sharp HD graphics and chaotic, screen-filling effects. Buildings explode, bosses dominate the screen, and every pixel gleams with menace. Players can adjust screen textures, HUD size, and display modes to suit their preferences. Performance is smooth, with both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions included, offering the chance to earn two Platinum trophies. The audio is equally impressive, with options for arranged or original soundtracks, stereo or mono settings, and a sound test to enjoy every track and effect.

R-Type Delta: HD Boosted – Overall Verdict: Is It Worth Playing?:
R-Type Delta: HD Boosted is a retro treat that successfully resurrects one of the most iconic shoot ’em ups. It balances nostalgia with modern polish, delivering addictive gameplay, strong visuals, and a thrilling soundtrack. While the lack of tutorials and extras may disappoint some, the core experience is fun, challenging, and rewarding. For fans of shmups and newcomers alike, this remaster is well worth diving into.
