Scarlet Nexus Review (Xbox Series S)

For our Scarlet Nexus Review, we go Into the far distant future, a psionic hormone was discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powers and changing the world as we knew it. As humanity entered this new era, deranged mutants known as Others began to descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains. Highly resistant to conventional attack methods, extreme measures needed to be taken to battle the overwhelming threat and preserve humanity.

  • Brain map – earn BP from leveling up and spend them here to unlock/improve abilities and stats.
  • Shos to buy and sell items and equipment.
  • Fast travel is possible to any discovered locations from the map.
  • SAS is an ability whereby you can use your allies’ powers for a short time and they all wildly change how you fight. You can do things like go invisible, duplicate yourself, do electric damage and so much more.
  • You have telekinesis powers and can pick up and throw items quickly but you can find and use special items to throw that trigger a QTE and do major damage.
  • Areas are big enough that you can explore.
  • Character bonds – speak with the other members of your party and give gifts to increase a bond that makes SAS connections stronger.

  • Status effects play a big part like you can get enemies wet so electricity attacks do more damage or put oil on them so fire is more potent.
  • You can ride vehicles and run over enemies for a short time before throwing the vehicle away.
  • Brain field – build the bar and unleash this to go into a new brain field whereby you can do stronger attacks, do all psychokinesis attacks without restrictions.

  • Weak points show and do major damage.
  • Satisfying damage number pop-ups.
  • Can revive teammates.
  • The shop will get new wares as you progress.

Scarlet Nexus Review Cons:

  • Menus look washed out.
  • A lot of menus to navigate.
  • Slow starter.
  • Item management is a lot of menu mashing.
  • A lot to take in.
  • Managing the main and super missions is painful mostly due to the bad map marking they do and don’t do.
  • Combat does take some time.
  • You have a lot of mechanics to keep track of.
  • Early on especially, the game is very stop-start with a lot of cutscenes in between short combat scenarios.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
