Summary

Speed Crew is a party game that draws comparisons to Overcooked but with a pit crew twist. The game has a download size of 841.1MB and offers both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions. It features cel-shaded graphics, four save slots, and the ability to set up a custom or pre-defined team name. The game also offers four character models, each with customizable hats and clothing colors.

The gameplay involves fixing as many cars as possible within a limited time. A car comes in, you scan it with the computer, and any work needed is highlighted. You then use the right tool for the job and hit the red button to finish. Every action has a time bar, and more than one car can appear at a time, each with its own timer. Finishing the car before the timer ends earns a bonus. As you progress, you get to not only replace and fix the car but also repair the wheels.

The game is split into rounds, and in each game, you are facing off against other teams. The scoreboard in the garage shows who is currently winning. There are four championships to unlock, each with 10 rounds. The game also features a local two-player Sabotage mode and online Co-op play. An Arcade mode is shown on the menu but is coming soon.

Speed Crew boasts an excellent 1970s vibe, from the visuals to the soundtrack. The level design of the garages is commendable, and the game features old-school car manual-looking tutorial pop-ups. However, selecting tools that are on top of each other can be a pain, and you don’t get a lot of time to survey the garage for the placement of everything.

The controls are simple, and there’s a dash button for quick movement. However, the game does not allow for control rebinding and lacks real game settings. The game supports local co-op and has online Co-op play. In the local two-player Sabotage mode, it’s even possible to slap each other.

The game has fast loading times but getting run over by a car causes a long respawn. After the tutorial, the game instantly introduces things you never learned. Despite the fun gameplay and the ability to replay levels, the game doesn’t have much replay value like score chasing. There are only a few characters and accessories, and they are just cosmetic.

Overall, Speed Crew is a fun game with a unique take on the plate-spinning game concept with vibrant aesthetics and easy-to-learn gameplay. However, it could benefit from more depth in terms of replayability and customization options. It is a game to have installed when you have friends and family around just bring controllers.
