For this The Serpent Rogue Review we play a potion crafting, action-adventure game with roguelike elements. When a once peaceful, medieval realm is corrupted by a dark force, The Serpent Rogue, it’s up to a mysterious alchemist known only as ‘The Warden’ to put their potion crafting skills to the test and restore the realm to its formerly tranquil state.

The Serpent Rogue Review Pros:

Decent graphics.

RPG gameplay.
Opening and ongoing tutorial pop-ups.
Potion crafting is the name of the game.
You play as an Alchemist called The Warden and you are looking to protect the world from the Serpent Rogue and its minions.
Can rebind controls.
Screen settings – screenshake, slow motion, and brightness slider.
Four save slots.
Male and female character choice.
In-game cutscenes.
Can skip the cutscenes.
The story is told with language that makes it feel like a book or a diary of your adventures.
3rd person perspective.
The dark yet somewhat inviting atmosphere.
It is an enchanting world.
The map is presented as a snow globe style with it in your hand housed in a crystal ball.
Materials and resources can be scavenged from the World and need to be studied and researched before they can be used in crafting.
Collect knowledge about brewing and experiment with ingredients to craft potions.
Fires are used to cook ingredients and create dishes and learn recipes.
Earn and equip new hats to wear.
Storage chests are all connected and used for you to store items and resources.
Sleep to advance time, you get hungry when sleeping and is represented by a bar.
A portable lab table allows you to do research and crafting on the go.
Memorable characters.
On-screen interaction prompts.
The mini-map helps by showing locations and enemies.
Kiosks hold optional missions and objectives that are usually a case of crafting certain items for people.
Incognito is your stealth mode, when in incognito you can be unseen, pickpocket, and analyze creatures and enemies.
Stamina system in play for running and fighting.
Items like food can be set to the d-pad for easy access.
Full inventory system.
Helter Smelter is where you can make or enhance basic weapons/tools.
The map uncovers as you play.
Rescue and recruit human followers to have them join your camp for protection.
Store food and items for human followers to use.
Tame creatures by researching and feeding them. You continue to research the same animals to grow your knowledge.
Find and read tomes to uncover the lore and history of the game world.
Fast loading times.
It’s definitely a game about crafting, exploring, and a bit of combat.
Hack and slash-style combat.

The Serpent Rogue Review Cons:

It’s a slow starter as you take a lot of information in initially.
The opening of the game is slow and it doesn’t do a good job of telling you what to do and where to go in order to proceed.
Weird animation loops when stuck on the scenery.
Everything just takes an age from scavenging to gathering materials and crafting.
The stamina limit goes down quickly.
You just don’t get told a lot of the mechanics in play.
It’s just slow-paced.
