  • Gameplay settings – seven gameplay camera choices, camera switch, serve ball toss zoom, ball trail, serve timing indicator, power bar, show ball height indicator, show bounce marker, show hints, assisted run, and stamina bar.
  • Advanced gameplay settings – umpire call notifications, replays, vibration, measurement units, gameplay camera target, replay camera Invert controls, subtitles, show remote players, cross-play, and cross-content.
  • You can turn on and off individual music tracks to customize a playlist.
  • Five difficulties – Easiest, Easy, medium, hard, and expert.
  • Full creator suite for players, logos, and venues. You can upload and download other player creations.
  • Djokovic slam challenge has two modes – red live championships, and red write history.
  • Five main game modes – play now, tutorials, tournaments, career, and online.
  • Online has three game modes – quick match, custom match, and tournament.
  • Play now lets you play singles and doubles.
  • Online leaderboards.
  • Four official tournament choices – ATP 1000, WTA 1000, ATP Finals, and WTA finals.
  • In-game cutscenes and character interactions.
  • Career mode has you choosing a character avatar (male/female), setting up the rules and lengths, and then you pick to create a character or you choose a star player. (created players earn exp and you can adjust stats etc while star players don’t).
  • Full in-depth character creator – name, date of birth, grunt frequency, dominant hand, nationality, residence, turned pro, appearance, clothing, play style, and attributes and focus.
  • Decent loading times.
  • Has really tight controls, it goes for a more hold-down button and aims to set the destination. It sounds way more complicated than it actually is. It all flows.
  • Career mode has an initial brief tutorial along with your coach who will talk to you, help, and set the scene.
  • The game likes to put in a lot of cutscenes and intros which add a lot to the feel and atmosphere of it all.
  • Multiple choice encounters and choices when playing the career mode.
  • The career mode lets you choose what you do each week as you set up your planner. You can practice, rest, or take part in tournaments and events.
  • Full stats screen, focus management, player management, etc within the career hub.
  • You can play or simulate matches in career mode.
  • To me it feels like a more arcade approach to the gameplay, it has enough on top for the more technical players but is simple enough to have novice players feeling like they know what they are doing.
  • Fantastic-looking venues and locations.
  • There are two ways to serve: you can press and release a button or press a button to throw it up and hit another one. You get a small circle to help with power.
  • Reactive emotes can be used after a point is scored, it’s fast and easy to use. Plus it adds to the atmosphere.
  • I found the controls in terms of shot control easier to grasp and quicker to grasp than the 2K tennis games.
  • When serving you can change your stance to flat, kick serve, or slice with a simple button press.
  • When playing with stars you get proper introductions.

TIEBREAK Official Game Of The ATP And WTA Review Cons:

  • No benchmark test for the graphics.
  • You cannot remap the controls on the controller.
  • The mouse cursor stays on the screen when using the controller.
  • The tutorials are locked and unlocked one after the other.
  • When playing the tutorials you get a brief intro explaining everything, but then you get no feedback on how well you are doing or if you are even doing it correctly.
  • The red-willed history Djokovic slam challenge mode is locked initially.
  • Slight performance hiccups during play.
  • Some of the atmosphere is ruined by your nonspeaking character.
  • Text can stay too long on screen which causes it all to bunch up and become hard to read.
  • Your player does all the facial reactions and body movements but I never hear the grunts or shouting.
  • Robotic movements in cutscenes and comical movements when in the game.
  • After a point is scored your player automatically reacts so then having it changed to your reactive choice makes it look stupid especially when going from happy to sad or vice versa.
  • Power management is definitely the hardest part to learn.
  • More an FYI but you cannot use the mouse and keyboard.

Summary

TIEBREAK: Official Game Of The ATP And WTA offers a mixed bag of features and experiences. The game boasts decent graphics and a substantial download size of 38.7GB. It supports Steam achievements and full controller functionality, enhancing the overall gaming experience. The graphics settings are comprehensive, allowing players to adjust resolution, character quality, shadows, anti-aliasing, and more, ensuring a customizable visual experience. The tennis gameplay is officially licensed, adding authenticity, and the game includes various tutorial modes to help players get started.

The gameplay settings are extensive, offering seven camera choices, serve ball toss zoom, ball trail, and several indicators to assist players. Advanced settings include umpire call notifications, replays, vibration, and cross-play options. Music customization is a nice touch, allowing players to create their own playlists. The game features five difficulty levels, catering to both novice and expert players. The creator suite is robust, enabling players to create and share custom players, logos, and venues. The Djokovic slam challenge mode adds an extra layer of challenge with its two modes.

The game modes are diverse, including play now, tutorials, tournaments, career, and online modes. Online play offers quick matches, custom matches, and tournaments, with leaderboards to track progress. The career mode is particularly detailed, allowing players to create a character or choose a star player, with a full in-depth character creator. The career mode also includes a planner for weekly activities, practice, rest, and tournaments, adding depth to the gameplay.

However, the game has its drawbacks. There is no benchmark test for graphics, and controls cannot be remapped on the controller. The mouse cursor remains on the screen when using the controller, which can be distracting. Tutorials are locked sequentially, and there is no feedback during them, which can be frustrating for players trying to learn. The Djokovic slam challenge mode is initially locked, and there are slight performance hiccups during play. The atmosphere is somewhat diminished by the nonspeaking character, and text can linger too long on the screen, causing clutter. The player’s facial reactions and body movements are not accompanied by grunts or shouts, and cutscenes feature robotic and sometimes comical movements.

In summary, TIEBREAK: Official Game Of The ATP And WTA offers a rich and customizable tennis experience with a variety of game modes and settings. While it excels in graphics, customization, and gameplay depth, it is hindered by some performance issues, control limitations, and minor annoyances in tutorials and character interactions. Overall, it provides a solid tennis simulation that can appeal to both casual and hardcore tennis fans.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
