This Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Storm Ground Review has us trying to conquer the Mortal Realms! The first strategy videogame adaptation of Age of Sigmar’s dark-fantasy universe. Lead your highly-customizable force in challenging roguelike campaigns, unlocking new units, equipment, and skills in dynamic, turn-based warfare.

  • Action strategy gameplay.
  • Graphics-Resolution, screen mode, resolution scale slider, brightness, frame rate cap, v-sync, graphics quality preset (very low, low, medium, high, Max and custom)
  • Cross play-on/off.
  • Can rebind controls.
  • Three factions- Stormcast Eternals, Nighthaunt, and Maggotkin Of Nurgle.
  • Excellent voice work.
  • Multiplayer modes- auto-match, play with friends, or co-op against Ai.
  • Decent hand-drawn storyboards.
  • Opening tutorial level with ongoing pop-ups.
  • EXP pops up as you kill enemies.
  • The game plays out on a hex-based battlefield.
  • Clear easy to read Hud that is very accessible for new players.
  • Each of the faction’s game styles is unique.
  • Warband-this is your team you take into battle. The first slot is always a hero character.
  • Fast loading times.
  • Turn-based combat.
  • Power resources are accumulated over the course of a level and used to spawn in more units or reinforcements.
  • Earn EXP for each unit type used in a battle.
  • Can play how you want.
  • Break down an unwanted gear into tribute EXP.
  • Earn loot from battles and chests in the world.
  • Tooltip shows any terrain change like better range with the high ground or harder to hit behind cover.
  • Can skip/fast forward conversations.
  • Keyboard shortcuts.
  • Special terrain hexes can be found on the battlefield and occupying one gives an advantage of some sort.
  • You can knock enemies off the map.
  • Each faction has 3 campaigns and you unlock them one by one.
  • The difficulty is determined on a battle-by-battle basis.
  • Gear has rarity levels.
  • Tribute-spend this on any character to add that amount of EXP to them.
  • Army painter- create your own color scheme.
  • Camera- free movement with zoom in and out.
  • You still get EXP and rewards even if you fail.
  • Battles take place on a small battlefield.
  • Lore is collected as you play and you can have it read to you.
  • Control points- a game type whereby you need to control as many of the control point hexes as you can to score.
  • The level select is a map that opens up allowing you to choose where to go.
  • Take control of iconic characters in the Warhammer Sigma world.
  • Before actioning a command you can see if and how much damage it does to people around you including yourself.
  • Run based in that a game over resets the game world but you keep all loot and levels/EXP.
  • Kill the target- a game type that involves killing one particular enemy for a victory.
  • Nurgle- they manipulate the battlefield by infesting it via growing sowing and harvesting the corruption. You have four corruption hex types (poison/corrosion/debilitating/disease) and it is random as to which one manifests.
  • Has an air of into the breach about it as you can see where enemies will spawn, you must defend key characters and the battlefield can be twisted and turned.
  • Actions and reactions work on a behind-the-scenes dice roll to see how effective/ineffective your actions are.
  • Nighthaunts summon by placing Skull pyres or wisps on the battlefield. Wisps heal and then get/can be destroyed whereas Skull Pyres stay active all the time and need Wisps to live.

Warhammer Age Of Sigmar Storm Ground Review Cons:

  • No easy way to compare items.
  • The item management screens are very plain and cold looking.
  • The enemy turns drag on as it comes to a halt as they plan attacks etc.
  • Can be hard to see the terrain types without hovering around with the cursor.
  • No controller support.
  • Doesn’t have any difficulty settings.
  • Cannot undo an action.
  • No fast forward button.
  • Doesn’t explain the gameplay loop.
  • Leveling up takes an age (of Sigmar).
  • Can only have one campaign/save at a time.
