ZombFarm Review (PlayStation 5)

ZombFarm Review, Congratulations, you’ve been hired to work on a farm! Bright days filled with honest and rewarding work lie ahead. As you grind your way through the week, you’ll feed and water the livestock, clean the dogs and horses, pick ticks off the sheep, plant new crops, milk the cows, go fishing, and much more! Each activity features a mini-game to keep your farmwork varied and engaging… But something is amiss.

ZombFarm Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 520.5MB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • You get the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game.
  • Farm management with a bit of zombie thrown in gameplay.
  • You go around your farm and feed animals, pick plants, and fill orders.
  • Every interaction with an animal is a mini-game and these can vary but it’s usually picking fleas off them, milking cows, or catching eggs from chickens.
  • Go off into the forest to kill zombies for bones and pick flowers, mushrooms, etc which can be used for orders and fertilizer.
  • Day and night cycle.
  • You work on a week-long schedule so sleep and a full cycle will advance the day.
  • A dog is running around and you can play mini games with him.
  • Isometric view.
  • Walk up to feeding troughs to refill water and food.

ZombFarm Review Cons:

  • The music is not good in particular the main menu music drives me insane.
  • No tutorials.
  • You don’t get told the controls.
  • The gameplay is very slow and tedious.
  • Mini-games repeat themselves constantly.
  • The zombie part is just boring.
  • The whole game loop is not entertaining.
  • You cannot run so it’s always at a snail’s pace.
  • No map to bring up.
  • It takes ages to figure out just the basics.
  • All story-related notes are plain and uninteresting.
  • No replay value at all.

Summary

ZombFarm offers a mix of farm management and zombie survival gameplay with decent graphics and a manageable download size of 520.5MB. The game provides both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions and even includes a Platinum trophy for dedicated players. The core gameplay involves typical farm management tasks such as feeding animals, picking plants, and fulfilling orders. Each interaction with animals is presented as a mini-game, which can range from picking fleas off them to milking cows or catching eggs from chickens. Additionally, players can venture into the forest to kill zombies for bones and gather resources like flowers and mushrooms, which are used for orders and fertilizer. The game features a day and night cycle, and players work on a week-long schedule where sleep advances the day. There’s also a dog that players can interact with through mini-games, and the game is presented in an isometric view.

However, ZombFarm has several drawbacks. The music, especially the main menu track, is notably irritating. The game lacks tutorials, leaving players to figure out the controls on their own, which can be frustrating. The gameplay is slow and tedious, with repetitive mini-games and a boring zombie element. The overall game loop fails to entertain, and the inability to run means players move at a snail’s pace. The absence of a map makes navigation difficult, and it takes a long time to grasp the basics. The story-related notes are plain and uninteresting, and the game offers no replay value.

In summary, while ZombFarm has some appealing aspects like decent graphics and a variety of mini-games, its numerous flaws, including poor music, lack of tutorials, slow gameplay, and uninteresting story elements, make it a less than enjoyable experience. The game ultimately fails to deliver a compelling or entertaining experience, leaving much to be desired.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
