Summary

Counterattack Uprising is a shmup game that offers a unique blend of side-scrolling and wave-based gameplay. The game features an opening tutorial stage, eight ships to choose from each with its own pilot, and a full in-depth level creator and editor. You can play campaign, survival, or custom using various modes and difficulties.

The game also includes an animated backdrop, an end-of-level boss, and endless possibilities to mix and match guns and attachments. However, the game has some drawbacks. Online leaderboards require Nintendo Switch online, there’s no way to rebind controls, the text is small, and the respawning time is slow. Despite these issues, Counterattack Uprising is a fun and never-ending cycle of top-drawer shmup action.
