Colossal Ancients and Chaos Spells: Diablo 2’s New DLC is Pure Spectacle
The Burning Hells just got a lot more crowded, and this time, the shadows are fighting back. Stepping into the boots of the Warlock brings a fresh sense of dread to Sanctuary, trading old-school predictability for high-octane eldritch chaos. It is a visual punch to the gut that breathes new life into the classic grind, making every encounter feel like a genuine struggle for dominance.

Gameplay Review & Mechanics Breakdown
The Warlock is modelled off Hollywood’s Bad Boy, Rahul Kohli, who also lends his voice to the role, and he absolutely fits the vibe. The new skill trees are split into four distinct paths: Chaos, Eldritch, Demon, and General skills. You can summon powerful beings to fight for you, like the Goatman, Tainted, and Defilers. They will then fight alongside you and your mercenary sidekick, making the battlefield feel properly hectic. I loved being able to lay down hexes on my weapons; you’ve got Bane to add magic damage, Purge to warp enemies right into your blade, and Siphon to pull the blood and health straight out of them. You can even have levitating weapons that shoot out, and it looks so cool in motion.
The variety here is massive. You can specialise in different elements and shoot out fireballs or maybe just go full Raiden and use lightning attacks. If things get too crowded, you can lay down a pentagram and trap enemies whilst causing damage, or use Sigils, which are either offensive or add buffs to your minions and attacks. What the DLC has done for me is add a lot more visual wow power, but also give the game a lot more depth with the new abilities of the character. It opens up the battles a lot more and is for me a ton more fun. Plus, the all-new endgame activities with Colossal Ancients and all-new dynamic terror zones add so much more to the game to keep you coming back.

Diablo 2 Warlock DLC Xbox Series S Review: Performance & Fidelity
- Awesome graphics: The visual quality on the Series S remains top-tier, handling the new chaotic effects without breaking a sweat.
- A real spectacle: All powers, no matter what, like Eldritch Blast or shields, all look the part, but they also make the game look insane with all these big explosions and light blasts.
- Smile factor: The sheer amount of visual flair on screen definitely raised a smile or five during the more intense encounters.
- Increased depth: The visual wow power isn’t just for show; it highlights the new depth the Warlock brings to the character roster.
Settings, Customisation & Control Details
- Building the Warlock: Getting my Warlock to bad ass levels did take a while and a lot of back and forth with the building, as I didn’t want to just cheat and use a forum or guide.
- Lack of guidance: The game is still not good at helping with building paths or explaining how to optimise these new trees.
- Character focus: It is basically just a character, as the updates and quality of life additions mentioned on the store page are for everyone.
- Empty slots: I was hoping for story-based questing so we could learn about the Warlock or, more importantly, just get more Diablo 2 story, but it’s not here.

Summary
GOOD STUFF
The graphics here are awesome, and having the character modelled off and voiced by Rahul Kohli is a massive win that adds instant personality. The new skill trees offer genuine depth, letting you summon Tainted and Defilers to fight alongside you and your mercenary. Whether you are using levitating weapons that shoot out or laying down pentagrams to trap enemies, the game becomes a real spectacle. The mix of Eldritch blasts and big explosions looks insane and definitely raised a smile or five, giving the combat a visual wow power that makes the battles feel more fun and dynamic.
BAD STUFF
It is a bit of a letdown that there are no new achievements to hunt, and it is basically just a character addition since the quality of life updates are free for everyone anyway. I was really hoping for some story-based questing so we could learn about the Warlock or just get more Diablo 2 lore to chew on. Building the character to those bad ass levels took a lot of back and forth because the game is still not good at helping you understand the systems. Without using a forum or a guide to cheat, you are left to stumble through the build process on your own.
FINAL VERDICT
The Warlock DLC is a visual powerhouse that successfully injects fresh excitement into the endgame with the Colossal Ancients and dynamic terror zones. Rahul Kohli’s performance is spot on, and the new summon-heavy gameplay style is a blast to experiment with. It’s a shame the narrative and guidance side of things remains so thin, but the sheer spectacle of the new powers makes it worth the trip. If you want to turn Sanctuary into an explosive eldritch playground, this is a must-have.
