Frontier Hunter Erza’s Wheel Of Fortune Review Cons:
- Not all characters are voiced.
- At the start you get it run around the ship and learn the controls, then you have to do the predetermined training center that tells you everything you already worked out yourself.
- The image of your character in the menus will always be the default avatar and it will not change as you change your outfit or hair.
- The AI can be dumb at times, just standing there until they die.
- The game is no good at telling you how you got something or why you have it and what it does exactly.
- Your dash move cannot go through enemies. The enemy can shoot through each other but you can’t do that to them.
- There is no way to set or even see locations of side quests and this can make it really hard.
- A lot of menus with a lot of text to read for very basic information.
- The game does expect you to go into many of the menus to learn the basics.
- It’s weird to say hit the game is so open it actually goes against it, you can get lost in the exploration, lose track of missions, and just tire yourself out.
- Enemies can go through the environment.

Summary
Frontier Hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune offers a visually appealing experience with its decent anime-style graphics and beautiful cutscenes. The game features a manageable download size of 6.07GB and includes a platinum trophy for completionists. Players can choose between Japanese and Chinese voice options and have the flexibility to remap controls. The game also provides an E-Book QR code and ten save slots, catering to different play styles with two difficulty levels: normal and simple. The Metroidvania platformer gameplay is complemented by fast loading times and a map that fills in as you explore, highlighting points of interest.
The game’s 2D perspective with 3D backgrounds adds depth to the visuals, and players can save their progress and craft food by sitting on couches. Loot chests scattered around the game drop valuable resources, and vendors allow for buying and selling items with an intuitive red and green text system to denote item quality. The hack-and-slash combat is engaging, with visible enemy health bars and the ability to equip artifacts that add new attacks or defenses. The loadout system includes two weapon slots, two artifact slots, armor, and two accessory slots, providing ample customization options. Mission markers are always visible on the map, and a quick-select menu for healing items ensures smooth gameplay. The game’s fast pace is enhanced by the ability to jump up ladders quickly and take huge drops without damage.
Players can unlock new hairstyles and outfits, customize their colors, and change them from within the game menu. The game also features on-rail shooter sequences and allows players to control different characters throughout the story, each with unique abilities and weapons. Quick-time events can trigger cutscenes, and players can skip or fast-forward any sequence that is not a key story moment. Enemies respawn when you leave and re-enter a screen, and the level-up pop-up is reminiscent of Castlevania. Magic cores add new abilities or upgrades to gear, fitting into a tetris-like block system. Big boss encounters are challenging, with multiple health bars and shields to break and stun.
However, not all characters are voiced, and the initial training center feels redundant after learning the controls on the ship. The character image in menus does not change with outfit or hairstyle changes, and the AI can be frustratingly dumb at times. The game lacks clear explanations for how items are obtained or their functions, and the dash move cannot pass through enemies. Side quest locations are not marked, making them hard to track. The game’s openness can lead to getting lost and losing track of missions, and enemies can move through the environment. The flashy combat and abilities can be overwhelming, and the game expects players to navigate many menus to learn the basics. Despite these issues, the game offers a solid gameplay loop, a bestiary that fills in as you discover new enemies, and a quick save feature that preserves progress.
In summary, Frontier Hunter: Erza’s Wheel of Fortune is a visually stunning game with fantastic locations and enemy types. It provides a lot of fun with its solid gameplay loop and customization options, despite some frustrating AI and menu navigation issues. The game’s openness can be both a strength and a weakness, offering freedom but also the potential to get lost. Overall, it is an enjoyable experience for fans of the Metroidvania genre.
