Goblin Slayer: Another Adventurer Nightmare Feast Review (Nintendo Switch OLED)

Goblin Slayer: Another Adventurer Nightmare Feast Review, Goblin Slayer arrives on consoles, from the hands of the original creators! Creator of the series Kumo Kagyu concocted the original concept and series composition; Noboru Kannatsuki, who also worked on Goblin Slayer, designed the main character for this new story set in the Four-Cornered World. In keeping with the style of the Goblin Slayer universe, the game is a tactical RPG where players will have to consider battlefield positions, specific unit abilities, and the weaknesses of their enemies.

Goblin Slayer: Another Adventurer Nightmare Feast Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 2.6GB download size.
  • 20 save slots.
  • Japanese and English language choice.
  • Two game difficulties – Story and adventure.
  • JRPG gameplay.
  • Anime-style art cutscenes with voice.
  • Japanese voice.
  • Interactions are in-game and can be skipped or set to auto-scroll.
  • The tutorial game manual in the menu is available at any time.
  • Cutscenes and interactions are a mix of in-game and art avatars.
  • Isometric viewpoint.
  • Turn-based combat.
  • You can inspect enemies and learn weaknesses, etc.
  • A grid is shown and helps with aiming shots and knowing your movement allowance.
  • When doing attacks or certain actions, you can roll the dice to maybe make it stronger.
  • Each character has action points (AP), which dictate how many actions or attacks you can do.
  • The enemy turns are fast, the animations show them as sped up.
  • You can end your turn whenever you want.
  • Enemy health bars show above their heads.
  • Swap units is a simple button press to make it easier and faster.
  • If you have ever played an RPG or JRPG, then you will slide right into it; it’s very familiar and aligned with the genre.
  • Recruit and create your own party of adventurers.
  • Very much a 90s-style JRPG and one for enthusiasts.
  • Use the terrain and environment to your advantage.
  • The Story is good, but it is just so slow. The characters are memorable and well told, but the pacing is.
  • Storytelling is a mix of standard storytelling and a narrated choose-your-own-adventure style.
  • Full-party management for actions like gear, hiring, firing, along promotions.
  • Buy and sell gear and items with workshops and vendors.
  • You can upgrade weapons and gear with resources, materials, and cash.
  • The Guild is where you go to get main quests, normal quests, training quests, sub-quests, and sub-stories.
  • Each quest will show victory and defeat conditions, rewards, and any special requirements.
  • At times, you may have to do certain quests or finish X amount of them until the next story beat unlocks; either way, the Guild will tell you what needs to be done.
  • Before any combat, you get to prepare and save or load your game.
  • Traps are a big part, and you can place these before a battle or trigger enemy ones.
  • Once the game finally gets going, it is rewarding and deep, but it’s just a slog.

Goblin Slayer: Another Adventurer Nightmare Feast Review Cons:

  • You cannot remap the controls.
  • There are not a lot of game options.
  • A slow starter with a huge story dump at the beginning, I’m talking a good 20 minutes of text.
  • You cannot actually skip the opening story dump. And in fact you cannot skip any of the interactions and cutscenes, and they are long and drawn out.
  • For some reason, my save never registered, and I had to rewatch all the opening story segments again.
  • No English voice choice.
  • The controls are fiddly and awkward.
  • It is a long time from the start until you have any mention of the game saving.
  • It’s not a game for traveling on public transport.
  • When getting story or character interactions you cannot save your game.
  • The tutorial pop-ups are more vague than helpful.
  • It took just over an hour until I could perform my first game save with no auto-save options.
