  • No voice work and instead, it’s just speech bubbles.

Summary

It’s Only Money features nice low poly graphics and a manageable download size of 3.84GB. The game supports Steam achievements and full controller support, with extensive graphics settings that include window mode, resolution, max FPS, gamma, resolution scale, field of view, view distance, anti-aliasing, post-processing, shadows, textures, effects, motion blur, bloom, NPC density, FSR 2.0, environment detail range, vehicle density, nanite, and HZB experimental. Controller settings offer options for inverting the axis, sensitivity sliders, haptic feedback, button icon style, and remapping controls. Full mouse and keyboard support is also available, with similar customization options. The character creator allows players to customize their character’s face, gender, and eyebrow color, or simply hit randomize. The UI is designed with an old-school Windows interface, adding a nostalgic touch. The game also features Twitch integration and an opening tutorial to help players get started.

The game is played from a third-person view in a full 3D world with 360-degree camera control. The big, bright UI makes navigation easy, and players have a TV in their room that can connect to YouTube. Driving in the game is also in third-person, with the ability to drift around corners and listen to radio stations. In-game cutscenes and character interactions add depth to the experience. The game world is expansive, with a map where players can add markers. The mobile phone houses apps like the map and objectives, and any earned experience points pop up on the screen. Cash machines allow players to deposit and withdraw cash, and scavenging items from the game world earns experience points. Loot bins provide food and resources, and items show their sell price. Shops let players buy and sell items, and bins and objectives can respawn, allowing for more resource gathering and experience points.

The game features a stamina system for running and jumping and a food meter that can be replenished by eating, which also provides timed buffs. Players can use weapons to break down parts of the game world and lay down map markers to get a trail showing on the floor. The game includes great little set pieces, and players can pickpocket people by doing a mini-game to get items from them. Wanted posters lower the player’s bounty when ripped down, and causing chaos can result in a wanted level by the police. The hack-and-slash-style combat is in real time, and players can loot fallen enemies. The hot bar allows for a quick selection of items and gear.

However, there are some drawbacks. YouTube videos do not work on the TV in the player’s room, and the controller sensitivity is too high, making the controls feel squishy. Navigation of the game world feels chaotic and unclear, and the stamina and food bar systems can be frustrating. The game’s theme is not well laid out, and the pacing is slow, with frequent cutscenes interrupting the action. Invisible walls and unopenable doors are constant, and there is no voice work, only speech bubbles.

In summary, It’s Only Money is a visually appealing game with extensive customization options and a large, interactive game world. While the game has some drawbacks, such as high controller sensitivity, unclear navigation, and a slow pace, it offers a unique and engaging experience for players who enjoy open-world games with a mix of action and exploration.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
