Kadomon Hyper Auto Battlers Preview Pros:

  • Excellent cartoon graphics.
  • 2.69GB Download size.
  • Full controller support.
  • Graphics settings – resolution and fullscreen.
  • Gameplay settings – screenshake, battle panning, and language.
  • Run-based auto battler.
  • Every run, you pick a trainer (male or female) and pick one of their three starter Kodomon.
  • Map-based run where you pick each step of the map.
  • Event sequences can be landed on, and they give a set of random choices, which could be items or buffs.
  • Combat is an auto battler with each character having a bar that, once full, they do their attack.
  • Each Kodomon will earn exp and level up to increase stars, and you will evolve into a new Kodomon.
  • Yes, it has a Pokémon vibe.
  • After a battle, you get coins, a choice of a random Kodomon to take, and other rewards.
  • Morale is like your life bar; you can get more of it, but if you lose a fight, you lose moral points, and once it hits zero, you get a run/game over.
  • Items can be earned and bought from the shop, and adding the item to a Kodomon adds a new buff, ability, or attack.
  • Discarding Kodomon will give you an EXP sweet you can give to another Kodomon.
  • Your fighting party is a max of four Kodomon, but you can have eight in your box and in between battles, so you can freely swap them in and out.
  • Each Kodomon is an element like air, water, fire, etc.
  • Rock, paper, scissors like mechanic is at play with it being like fire beats plant, but rock beats water, and by beat I mean do more damage.
  • Earn Reroll tickets to Reroll the shop.
  • Coins can be used to buy items and Kodomon.
  • If you earn or buy a duplicate card of a Kodomo, then it turns into experience.
  • Another instance on the map is a camp where you can either give a huge load of exp to a Kodomon or add the randomised element to a Kodomon card.
  • The game is very simple to get into, but gets devilishly hard as you have to learn good strategy from your party to the route you take on the map.
  • Instant loading times.
  • Three game speeds in combat are a button press away.
  • Each region (map) has a collection of Kodomon, and as you acquire them, it feels it in.
  • The seed number is shown at different times and can be shared.
  • All items and Kodomon in your inventory give a pop-up showing all the info on them.
  • Evolutions trigger a small animation event, but you can skip it.
  • There is an end-of-run breakdown.
  • Very moreish and has that just one more go mentality.
  • As you finish runs, you unlock new items that could show up.
  • The end of each map/region is a boss fight, and mini-boss fights can appear on the map.

Kadomon Hyper Auto Battlers Preview Cons:

  • Only two trainers with six total starting Kodomon.
  • For the first few hours, you tend to pick Kodomon not on what or who you want, but more to fill in the library of Kodomon.
  • Cannot remap the controls.
  • I personally don’t like the pop-up over items and Kodomon, as it really obscures your view and makes simple tasks stressful.
  • Luck-based, so it is what it could be.
  • It’s not always clear what your team builds or what element is until you get into it.
  • A small pool of Kodomon seems to be in the rewards rotation.
  • I couldn’t find any way to get rid of items, which is annoying when you miss out on rewards or exp sweets because your inventory is full.
  • The controller works fine, but the map and menus could be tightened up.
  • After a few hours, I was kind of done and had seen everything, so now I’m just waiting for updates.
  • There is no customisation like team names or renaming Kodomon.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
