Morkull Ragast’s Rage PS5 Review: The Good, The Bad, and The Unexpected

Morkull Ragast’s Rage Review dives into the captivating yet uneven experience of this Metroidvania platformer, blending stunning cartoon visuals and unique mechanics with a gameplay flow that struggles to hit its stride. With highlights like colorful characters, a vast skill tree, and rewarding exploration, paired against sluggish controls and frustrating design choices, this is a game you’ll want to learn more about before jumping in. Let’s explore everything “Morkull Ragast’s Rage Review” reveals about this ambitious title.

Morkull Ragast’s Rage Review Pros:

  • Cool cartoon like graphics.
  • 427.3MB download size.
  • Platinum trophy.
  • FREE playable demo on the store.
  • Metroidvania platformer gameplay.
  • Tutorial pop ups and sections as you play.
  • 2D game World with animated backdrops and foreground.
  • Hack and slash combat, but at any time you can curl up into a shell to absorb attacks and it can rebound projectiles.
  • The goal of the game is to escape out of the game.
  • Many colorful characters to meet.
  • The map fills in as you explore and populates with points of interest as you find them.
  • Souls are the currency of the game and when you die you lose half of them each time.
  • The camera can be moved up and down to help with looking around the many platforms.
  • Unlock fast travel points via portals.
  • Health potion replenished health.
  • The game uses a health bar system.
  • A huge skill tree called abilities, and you spend souls on new abilities and upgrades.
  • Teleport, replenish options, uses, and levelling up are all done at the portals.
  • Portals will also respawn any killed enemies, which can be used to your advantage like souls farming.
  • Find potion bottle fragments to make a new bottle, which equals another use.
  • Many secret rooms and routes to find.
  • Soul drops can be found that give a huge amount in one go.
  • Boss encounters.
  • A lot of the game does arena-like enclosed areas where you kill an amount of enemies in waves, and then unlock the door.
  • Breakable elements of the levels.

Morkull Ragast’s Rage Review Cons:

  • You cannot remap the controls.
  • No actual game settings.
  • The game doesn’t move as smoothly as you would like, it’s almost like it’s struggling.
  • Combat is very messy, mashy, and unfulfilling.
  • No accessibility options.
  • The game does seem to freeze for a split second every so often, and during combat this is a real pain.
  • It’s hard to describe, but the jumping and attacking feels spongy and kind of delayed, it’s not butter smooth and is enough of an issue for me personally that I could get the combat to flow.
  • It plays badly, it’s not fun, and is so sticky and sluggish that more than two flying enemies is almost instant death.
  • Hitting enemies is not that responsive as the enemy will buck back but still hurt you, so you have no chance of knowing what’s up.
  • Early game is rough with you taking a lot of damage and deaths, meaning a lot of restarting.
  • The level design is not great with portals too far apart.
  • Abilities has a small, unnoticeable border color to denote where you are, it’s not easy to see or use.
  • Any abilities you have bought will still show up and have a buy upgrade option, only the yes button disappearing denotes you having already purchased the ability.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
