- Shooting the pickups in Operation Thunderbolt is really hard, as they are so small.
- Night Striker is a game that plays so differently from the others that it almost feels out of place in the collection.
- Some concept art of arcade cabinet art would have been awesome.

Operation Night Strikers Review
Summary
Operation Night Strikers – The Thrills and Highlights of Gameplay
Operation Night Strikers is a turbo-charged blast of 80s arcade nostalgia, bundling four genre-defining shooters into one electrifying package. From the gritty hostage rescues of Operation Wolf to the synth-drenched hovercraft chaos of Night Striker, each game delivers joystick-fueled action with CRT glow and relentless pacing. Space Gun adds sci-fi limb-blasting mayhem, while Operation Thunderbolt brings drop-in co-op and intense jungle combat. With gyro aiming, rapid fire tweaks, branching paths, and a wealth of HUD and gadget options, Operation Night Strikers nails the arcade feel while offering modern comforts like save states, leaderboards, and customizable controls.
Operation Night Strikers – Where It Falls Short: Key Negatives
Despite its retro charm, Operation Night Strikers stumbles in a few areas. Each game’s alternate version is locked behind paid DLC, which feels excessive for a nostalgia-driven compilation. Night Striker’s gameplay diverges so sharply from the rest that it risks feeling out of place. Some pickups, especially in Operation Thunderbolt, are frustratingly small and hard to hit. And while the collection oozes love for the originals, the absence of concept art or cabinet designs is a missed opportunity for deeper immersion.
Operation Night Strikers – Immersive Story and Narrative Elements
Operation Night Strikers doesn’t lean heavily on deep storytelling, but it captures the spirit of arcade-era narrative flair. Each title features animated avatars, attract mode demos, and stylised cutscenes that evoke the era’s dramatic flair. Space Gun stands out with its Alien-style tracker, branching paths, and human rescue missions, while Night Striker offers a rolling road shooter with survivors and power-ups. The minimal voice work and straightforward objectives keep the focus on action, but the presentation still manages to feel rich and authentic.
Operation Night Strikers – Visual and Performance Aspects
Visually, Operation Night Strikers is a love letter to CRT-era arcade cabinets. Players can toggle scanlines, wallpapers, and pixel-perfect modes to recreate the original glow. Each game’s HUD is packed with info and flair, even if you’re too busy shooting to read it. The collection runs with lightning-fast load times and smooth performance, and the Joycon mouse support paired with gyro aiming delivers surprisingly precise control. The animated avatars on loading screens and the replay theatre add polish, while the insert coin button seals the retro vibe.
Operation Night Strikers – Overall Verdict: Is It Worth Playing?
Operation Night Strikers is a fiendishly addictive slice of retro goodness. It’s packed with customisation, accessibility options, and arcade authenticity, making it a must-play for fans of classic light gun shooters. While the DLC model and a few gameplay quirks hold it back from perfection, the sheer love poured into this compilation shines through. Whether you’re chasing leaderboard glory or just cranking the credits button like a virtual millionaire, Operation Night Strikers delivers a thrilling ride through arcade history.
