Sniper Elite: Resistance Review Cons:
- They have a Jason Statham stand-in as the main narrator/character voice and for some reason, it grated on me.
- The performance in the Xbox Series S is not great, a lot of slowdown and stuttering with pop-in happening.
- When it comes to shooting normal guns and pistols it’s not as tight and great to shoot as the snipers.
- Despite the map showing them, it can still be tricky to make out enemies.
- If you are new to the series you have a slight learning curve as you learn it’s not a case of rushing in but planning and timing every move.
- Using the cover felt spongey but honestly, it could be the performance of the game causing it.
- The radial menu for items and tools is so fiddly, that it always seems too sensitive and selects the wrong thing.
- You cannot remap the controls yourself.
- It can be really tricky to lose the alertness.
- Enemy snipers are the bane of my life in this game.

Controller settings are varied, offering six presets, axis inversion, and sensitivity sliders. The optional Axis Invasion mode adds an intriguing twist, allowing other players to jump into your game for a thrilling challenge. Cross-play support and a player card system where you unlock emblems and titles enhance the multiplayer experience.
The sniper shooter gameplay is engaging, with tutorial pop-ups providing guidance through text and video. Each level contains hidden collectibles, and players earn medals and ribbons for their achievements, complete with satisfying pop-up noises. The game has two ranks—one for the campaign and one for multiplayer. The shooting range is a nice touch, allowing players to try out various guns in set scenarios. Loadout customization is available for different modes, including campaign, Axis Invasion, survival, and multiplayer. The game features five modes: campaign, propaganda challenge, Axis Invasion, multiplayer, and survival. The Axis mission mode is particularly thrilling, as you enter another player’s game as Sniper Jager, utilizing abilities to track them down. Survival mode involves defending command points from waves of enemies, while the propaganda challenge is a time-based set piece rewarding speed and stealth.
The game world is fully 3D with 360-degree camera control, and the series’ signature X-ray kills are both impressive and gory. The gameplay is flexible, allowing players to approach each level in various ways, uncovering secrets, alternate routes, and hiding spots. Replayability is high, as you can replay any completed level and earn one to three stars per level for meeting objectives. The game offers nine campaign missions with five difficulties, plus the option to create custom difficulties. Players earn EXP and skill points to invest in three skill trees—combat, equipment, and body. Multiple load-out slots cater to different builds, and weapons can be customized with various parts to enhance stats.
The game excels in providing a satisfying experience with tight sniping mechanics, fast loading times, top-tier voice work, and highly detailed locations. Environmental elements and heart rate management add depth to the gameplay, and the photo mode integration is a nice touch. The game also features a radial menu for selecting items and tools, though it can be fiddly and overly sensitive. Additionally, performance on the Xbox Series S suffers from slowdown, stuttering, and pop-in issues. The cover system feels spongey, possibly due to performance problems.
Despite these drawbacks, the game offers a lot of replay value with various rewards and unlocks, customizable loadouts, and detailed environments. Noise is well-implemented, allowing players to use environmental sounds to mask their shots. However, the game has its share of annoyances, such as a fiddly radial menu, unremappable controls, and challenging alertness mechanics. The performance issues on the Xbox Series S, coupled with the inconsistent quality of normal gunplay compared to sniping, can be frustrating.
Overall, Sniper Elite: Resistance is a satisfying game for fans of the series, with its mix of stealth and action gameplay, high replay value, and detailed environments. However, it does come with some performance issues and fiddly controls that may detract from the overall experience but it is more Sniper Elite with an awesome multiplayer addition. Just remember always hoot your shot! You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.
