Cruelty Review (Steam)

Cruelty Review is a Japanese-made splatter horror. You were in an accident and lost consciousness. The moment you wake up, you find yourself in a nightmare world, one that is not of this Earth. In an abattoir ruled by madness, horrific scenes unfold, and inescapable terror awaits you.

Cruelty Review Pros:

  • Decent graphics.
  • 2.54GB download size.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Controller support.
  • Graphics settings – window mode, and frame rate.
  • You can turn the flashing lights on or off.
  • 3 save slots.
  • Two game difficulties – normal and hard.
  • Survival horror gameplay.
  • Uses a filter that gives old-school Resident Evil vibes.
  • Tutorial pop-ups for controls as you play.
  • Full 3D game world with 360-degree camera control.
  • Third-person view.
  • Puzzle elements as you attempt to escape.
  • Awesome voice work, the screams are a particular stand out for their authenticity.
  • They have nailed the intense scary atmosphere.
  • Features a lot of gore, decapitation, and body parts getting ripped off.

Cruelty Review Cons:

  • The controller only works in a few menus, even when using big picture mode, and using the controller like a mouse you cannot use or back out of all the menus.
  • No actual graphics settings.
  • It’s a scary game etc which is fine but it doesn’t offer any accessibility options to maybe make it more accessible to gamer needs.
  • Grammar mistakes in places.
  • A lot of screen tearing.
  • Slow starter.
  • Controller prompts are for the keyboard only.
  • The mouse cursor stays on the screen when using the controller.
  • The whole time you are playing regardless of whether you are moving or not, the camera sways, and for me personally that makes me feel nauseous.
  • You could argue the gruesome nature of kills and scares goes too far and there is a lot of blood, limbs being ripped off, decapitations, etc.
  • I can’t speak too much on the whole game as like I said the performance and movements made me feel really nauseous, it’s rare but when a game triggers it then it’s pretty much a game over.

Gaming since the Atari 2600, I enjoy the weirdness in games counting Densha De Go and RC De Go as my favourite titles of all time. I prefer gaming of old where buying games from a shop was a thing, Being social in person was a thing. Join me as I attempt to adapt to this new digital age!
