- Save and load from the menu when you want.
- You can attack and break boxes, crates, bags, bushes, small trees, etc for resources and materials.
- The stamina bar shows for climbing, attacking, and running.
- Hack and slash-style combat.
- The game gives off a Fable and Fenyx Immortals rising.
- Healthbar system and you can pick up food to replenish.
- Anything Breakable generally has a yellow mist over it.
- Very accessible and easy to learn.
- A full elemental system is at play so things like putting fire out with ice or melting ice with fire.
- Mission and objective markers show on the screen.
- You can freeze and burn enemies.
- Handy radial menus for magic and weapons.
- Ranged and melee attacks.
- The world has a lot of breakable elements like wooden floors, parts of trees,s, etc.
- Boss fights are on the same level as a Monster Hunter with huge monsters you can freeze their feet in place, break parts off them, and climb on them.
- You can skip and fast-forward interactions and cutscenes.
- Codex fragments can be found in the world and can improve knowledge of the area and will eventually unlock a full codex entry.
- The map uncovers as you explore and enter new areas.
- It’s a very open game and lets you find secrets, alternate routes, etc.
- Crafting is in the game for items, weapons, and armor.
- Find and use Vista points to fill in the map.
- Loot materials and resources all have rarity levels represented by stars.
- Enemies frozen in place and killed have a higher chance of dropping rarer items.
- It’s awesome when you start fires and watch them spread naturally, you can throw enemies into it and use it to break objects.

- Watchers wisp is where you can summon little wisps to guide you to your next destination.
- Full vaulting and ledge grabbing which you can make automatic.

- Salvage any resources and materials into a more general crafting resource at salvaging spots, which is used to upgrade and improve the spots themselves.
- The main hub is a band of all your friends each specializing in different areas like crafting, leading, shops, etc.
- Equipment management is done in town and not out in the field. You can craft and buy new weapons.
- Loadout head armor, chest armor, braces, leg armor, and weapons.
- Aside from crafting new gear, you can also Reforger and upgrade gear.
- In town, you have your own tent and a central chest to stockpile items and resources.
- Go off and go farming when you want to stockpile and store resources and materials.
- Day and night play a part in the game like changing what animals are out, their location, and weather changes. Each day is two daytime and one nighttime expedition.
- An expedition is where you return from the open world part whether this is a mission or you going out for any reason.
- When reforging you select the parts you use and what you choose will change the stats of what you are reforging.
- There is enough variety that you always have something to do and you are not locked in.
- I like how you and your enemies can use elemental attacks and do things like turning rivers into frozen lakes and fire spreads around you.
- You can straight up grab an enemy and throw them off the map.
- The big boss encounters turn the game into something like Shadow of the Colossus where you can climb up the bosses and break latches to drop armor and allow you to attack them.
- Find and upgrade your elemental powers and make up your own set of abilities.
- Loomshard lets you use it to teleport to home base but it has a long cast time.
- Loom gates are basically fast travel points and you unlock them to make them available.
- When you die or fall off the map you can pick X amount of items to keep in your safe pocket and you lose the rest.
Eternal Strands Review Cons:
- You cannot remap the controls for the controller.
- No graphics benchmark test.
- There is no feedback for aiming arrows like the reticule going red.
- Getting used to the magic and combat can be tricky, it can also cause issues in the world as you are affected by them like heat or freezing.
- Enemy attacks can go a bit crazy and cause the camera to go funny making hitting them a lot harder.
- It’s annoying having to break boxes and crates for items as it’s never just a few hits, it takes enough time to be a pain.
- You need to manually pick up every item, or resource that drops.
- To use melee or ranged you have to use the fiddly radial menu and it could have easily worked as seperate buttons.
- The early game is rough with limited inventory slots, and small stamina it’s a slog to get to a position where you feel confident.
- Invisible enemies are an absolute pain.
- The wisp has a big cool down and is not always clear.
- Seeing markers is not as clear as you would like, especially in the town where you don’t have a compass or any Hud help.
- Leaving town is a case of always going to the end of the town boundary, it’s not ideal.
- The number of times I’ve lost items or breakable when hitting them as physics kicks in and the things go flying.
- You can only save when you want in the town and not out in the open world.
- There are portals to go back to town but you have to find them and it’s not straightforward.
- For me the combat just doesn’t feel great, I never feel in control or like I’m getting better at it.
- You cannot mark the map yourself or anything.

Players can choose from three difficulty levels and benefit from comprehensive controller settings, including remappable mouse and keyboard controls.
The gameplay is rich with adventure elements, offering a full elemental system, hack-and-slash combat, and tutorial pop-ups for new mechanics. The world is vibrant, with interactive elements like breakable objects and environmental effects. Players can use magical abilities and weapons to battle diverse enemies, from humanoid constructs to massive beasts, reminiscent of games like *Fable* and *Fenyx Immortals Rising*. The game also features beautiful character portraits, excellent voice work, and multiple-choice encounters.
However, there are some drawbacks. The early game can be challenging due to limited inventory slots and small stamina.
